How Is This Calculated?

This tool uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation — the most accurate formula for estimating calorie needs. It calculates your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) first, then adjusts for your activity level to get your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).

What Is BMR?

Your Basal Metabolic Rate is the number of calories your body burns just to keep you alive — breathing, pumping blood, and keeping your organs working — with no movement at all.

Weight Loss Tips

A deficit of 500 calories per day leads to about 1 pound of weight loss per week. Going below 1,200 calories (women) or 1,500 calories (men) without medical supervision is not safe. These are estimates — individual metabolism varies significantly.

When To See a Provider

If you have tried calorie management without results, or if you have diabetes, thyroid issues, or take medications that affect weight, a medically supervised program may be the right next step.
